FOUNDATION SEED POTATOES
TFI is expecting to receive from the Cornell-Uihlien Seed Farm at Lake Placid a quantity of Foundation Seed Potatoes. We intend to grow them with a one-year flush-through, that is, we do not intend to 'increase' them at TFI but intend to sell the entire resulting crop each year. This will be the highest quality one can ever expect to receive from a seed grower.
* Daisy Gold is a yellow-fleshed, yellow-skinned, high yielder. Some describe its tubers as large, others describe them as 'lunkers'. We suggest that one focus instead on the deep yellow color for its healthy benefits offered by its carotenoids. As such, Daisy Gold has achieved a degree of marketplace recognition among organic growers.
* Magic Molly is a relatively new purple-fleshed, purple-skinned variety introduced in Alaska. Flesh is purple throughout and retains it color despite boiling. The shape is variable, typically oblong to blocky. Tubers can be small or large, with some over 6 inches long.
* NY150 is presently an unreleased variety from Cornell University. This variety would seem to be the next best thing for 'baby' or 'petite' potatoes, a.k.a. creamers. We hope to offer all of its progeny for sale next fall. They are brilliantly white, round tubers, with shallow eyes which hold their shape whether boiled, steamed, roasted or baked. Also, good for chipping.
