FOUNDATION SEED POTATOES
* DAISY GOLD
A yellow-skinned, yellow-fleshed potato new to Tucker Farms this year. It is an all-purpose variety very popular with gardeners and organic growers. Its flesh is bright yellow far yellower (is that a word?) than Yukon Gold or Lehigh, and its flavor is unsurpassed. The deep yellow color would indicate a much higher concentration of healthful antioxidants than regular potatoes.
* Magic Molly is a relatively new purple-fleshed, purple-skinned variety introduced in Alaska. Flesh is purple throughout and retains it color despite boiling. The shape is variable, typically oblong to blocky. Tubers can be small or large, with some over 6 inches long.
* NY150 is a new variety released as Upstate Abundance by Cornell University only this year. We tested it for them last year and we like it a lot, despite its awkward name. Last year our tablestock customers fell in love with its creaminess and its flavor. Tubers are round and brilliantly white with shallow eyes. They hold their shape whether boiled, steamed, roasted or baked. Thusly, NY150 is a great tablestock selection. NY150 sets heavy with prodigious numbers of small tubers. In Europe, this would be a highly marketable and highly sought variety, but in the US and North America, small tubers are still a developing market. Nevertheless, NY150 is ahead of the curve for creamers, steamers, 'petite' and 'baby' potatoes and we think it will find its niche in the marketplace.
